Niigata Prefecture

    We connect Sado island with the nearest cities, including the city of Niigata and the city of Joetsu, running car ferries and jetfoils (express boats) on the daily basis.

    Two routes are depending on your needs.
    ・Niigata Port (Niigata City) ⇔ Ryotsu Port (Sado City), with two and a half hours by car ferry or 67 minutes by jetfoil.
    ・Naoetsu Port (Joetsu City) ⇔ Ogi Port (Sado City), with two hours and 40 minutes by car ferry, is convenient for travelers from Kansai and Chubu Region.
    The number of ferry and jetfoil services varies according to season, so please check the timetable on our website.
    Enjoy strolling along the deck in the sun, grab a bite to eat in a café, or hop on a round trip among Niigata, Sado and Joetsu ! All abroad!

    Credit card payment, free Wi-Fi service, breastfeeding room, dog run, companion animal cage, and multilingual information displays are available.

    <Nearby Sightseeing Spots>
    ・Futatsugame: A picturesque beach with islets that resemble two turtles closely nestling. You can enjoy the most dynamic scenery and pristine nature, including beach-bathing in the crystal clear water.
    ・Kitazawa Flotation Plant: Historical heritage site that contributed to the modernization of Sado silver and gold mines. Light-up and projection mapping events are held at night, and the mysterious appearance of the plant attracts visitors day and night.
    ・Sado Nishimikawa Gold Park: A hands-on museum where visitors can learn all about gold on Sado Island. You can even pan for gold here.

    Tokai Kisen has operated regular service to the Tokyo islands (Oshima, Toshima, Niijima, Shikinejima, Kozushima, Miyakejima, Mikurajima, and Hachijojima) since 1889. It mainly connects Tokyo: Takeshiba to each island. (There are two types of ships: large passenger ships and high-speed jet ships. The minimum travel time between Tokyo and Oshima is 1 hour and 45 minutes by high-speed jet ship, and 45 minutes between Atami and Oshima.
    Reservations are required in advance for boarding, so please make reservations via the Internet (https://www.tokaikisenyoyaku.com/app/login) or by phone. For reservations, please call our Customer Center (09:30-18:00, open all year round). Please note that English-speaking staff may not be available.
    Tokyo: Access to Takeshiba is an 8-minute walk from JR Hamamatsucho Station, a 10-minute walk from Daimon Station on the Toei Asakusa Line, and a 1-minute walk from Takeshiba Station on the Yurikamome Line
    Cash and various credit cards are accepted for settlement.
    Please complete boarding procedures at the counter 30 minutes prior to departure time.
    Free Wi-Fi is available on board, but signal connection may be difficult in some areas.

Aichi Prefecture

  • ISEWAN FERRY

    This regular car ferry service connects Toba Port (Toba City, Mie Prefecture) and Irago Port (Tahara City, Aichi Prefecture) in approximately 60 minutes.
    The ferry is equipped with an observation room overlooking Ise Bay, a store, and Wi-fi, allowing passengers to relax and enjoy sightseeing and transportation while viewing the islands in Ise Bay. This route is designated as the National Cycle Route "Pacific Coast Bicycle Route.
     
     Near Toba Port are Mikimoto Pearl Island, Toba Aquarium, and Ise Jingu Shrine. Also, Kintetsu Toba Station, an access station to Osaka, Kyoto, and Nagoya, is about a 12-minute walk away.
     Near the port of Irago, you can enjoy the natural beauty of the Irago Lighthouse and Koijigahama Beach, as well as fruit picking such as blueberries (early summer), melons (summer), and strawberries (winter). In winter, the entire Atsumi Peninsula is dyed yellow during the Rape Blossom Festival.

    Toba Port: 12-minute walk from JR/Kintetsu Toba Station.
    By car: Approx. 15 min. from Ise IC by car.
    Irago Port: From Toyohashi Railway Mikawa-Tawara Station, take Toyotetsu Bus for about 50 minutes to Irago Misaki Station.
    By car: Approx. 110 min. from Hamamatsu IC, approx. 100 min. from Toyokawa IC.

  • Meitetsu Kaijyo Kankosen Co.Ltd

    ・High-speed boats operate regularly from Kowa, Morozaki and Irago ports to Himakajima and Shinojima islands and Irago in Mikawa Bay.
    It takes about 20 to 30 minutes from Kowa Port to Himakajima and Shinojima by high-speed boat, and about 60 minutes to Irago Port.
    From Morozaki Port, it takes about 10 to 20 minutes to get to Shinojima and Himakajima by high-speed boat.
    From Irago Port, it takes about 25 to 35 minutes to get to Shinojima and Himakajima by high-speed boat.
    Please enjoy the boat trip from a ship equipped with an open deck while feeling the sea breeze.
    <Sightseeing Spots>
    Himakajima: Himakajima is a small island in the Mikawa Bay with a distance around of 5.5km.The population is about 1800, and the population density at the domestic isolated island is Japanese best.It is famous for its catches of Octopus and Blowfish.
    Octopus is a symbol in Himakajima in particular.A police station painted to look like Octopus, Octopus and Blowfish manhole covers on the streets are a must-see.
    Shinojima:Shinojima is an island with a distance around of 8km, and the population is about 1600. It is a good island for enjoying historic sites and walks.
    Scenic Shinojima dotted with a small island is also called "Matsushima in Tokai".
    The scenery when looking Matsushima direction on the west side in from a main island, is chosen as one of the 100 best sunsets in japan.
    Irago: Located at the tip of the Atsumi Peninsula, Irago commands a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean, Ise Bay, and Mikawa Bay. The white lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula is the symbol of Cape Irago.

    Kowa Port: Approximately a 7-minute walk from Meitetsu Kowa Station.
    Morozaki Port: 10 minutes drive from Toyooka IC of Minamichita Road.
    Irago Port: 1 hour and 40 minutes by bus from Toyohashi Station.
